Seat History:
SEAT was founded I 1950 with help from Fiat. Initially, SEAT manufactured rebadged Fiat models that differed very little visually from the products of the Italian parent. The SEAT Panda for example was based on the Fiat Panda. The SEAT 600, based on Fiat 600, was the first car for many Spanish families, and became a symbol of the Spanish Miracle. The first car under the new SEAT logo without Fiat involvement appeared in 1982, and was called the SEAT Ronda. This was a restyled Fiat Ritmo, and sparked a lawsuit from Fiat against SEAT, as the former claimed the car was still too similar to the Ritmo. The then president of SEAT, Juan Miguel Antonanzas, showed a Ronda to the press with all the parts different from the Fiat Ritmo painted in bright yellow, to highlight the differences. This ended the dispute. Rumour at the time had it that Fiat was angry because the Ronda restyling was in fact too close to their own planned restyling for the Fiat Ritmo, which they had to scrap. After the withdrawal of Fiat in 1981, the Volkswagen Group signed a cooperation agreement with SEAT, becoming the major shareholder in 1986, and owner of 100% of the company in 1990.

The acronym "SEAT" stands for Sociedad Espanola de Automóviles de Turismo literally meaning “Spanish Society of Touring Cars”. SEAT is an Italian Automotive company that manufactures touring cars. It is currently a subsidiary of the Volkswagen group and their headquarters is located at Martorell, Spain. Current range of models includes; SEAT Alhambra, SEAT Cordoba, SEAT Toledo, SEAT Altea, SEAT Ibiza, SEAT Leon. The SEAT Alhambra is a large MPV by the Volkswagen Group and sold under the SEAT brand. It has been on sale since 1996 and, apart from a major restyling in 2000, it is very similar to the original model. The second generation of the SEAT Cordoba is virtually identical to the Ibiza III. It is again a four-door saloon version; no estate or coupe versions were built. The Cordoba II also shares its chassis and engines with the Volkswagen Polo Mk IV and Skoda Fabia: straight-4 8-valve 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0-litre petrols, straight-4 20-valve 1.8-litre petrols, a 1.4 litre TDI turbodiesel and a 1.9-litre TDI turbodiesel in 100 and variants. The SEAT Toledo brand name was first introduced to the SEAT line-up in 1991, and the third generation was introduced in late 2004. The Toledo Mk III has a very controversial design, penned by Walter de"Silva. It is now closer to a compact MPV with the Alteasfront section, a high roof and a rearend inspired in the Renault Vel Satis, paying homage to the original Toledoshatchback/sedan rear. The SEAT Altea was designed by the Italian Walter de"Silva and launched in 2004 as the first example of SEATsnew corporate look. The current Toledo is identical except for the addition of a larger boot; another extended version, the Altea XL.The SEAT Ibiza is a supermini manufactured by the Volkswagen Group and sold under the SEAT brand.
